Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Position summary:
The Chief Financial Officer will provide the financial leadership, vision and strategy necessary to help Yeshivah of Flatbush continue its traditions of excellence, innovation and leadership that have made the school a world-renowned institution. As an integral member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will spearhead strategic financial planning across the organization with 2,000 students from Early Childhood through High School. The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for the Yeshivah’s financial control and accountability of funds from all sources in close work with the executive director and board of directors. 
  • Plan, organize and direct fiscal management to meet short- and long-term goals through multi-year strategic plans. Propose changes to existing goals or methods as needed. 
  • Direct all activities related to financial services, including accounting, fiscal reporting, forecasting, payroll, budget, external audit and all other financial responsibilities as needed. 
  • Oversee cash management, including bank account reconciliation, check approvals, cash deposit procedures and credit card/internet purchases. Maintain banking/lending relationships including our line of credit. 
  • Develop and maintain systems to ensure effective internal controls, compliance with governmental and contractual requirements and timely and accurate reporting.
  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  • Prepare the annual budget in close work with executive director  and treasurer and re-forecast the budget to date for each board meeting. Oversee cash flow planning, investments, and asset management.
  • Direct the tuition contracts process, including preparation, distribution, payments and collections. 
  • Oversee the financial aid process. Assess tuition assistance applications in close work with tuition assistance committee. 
  • Provide an analysis and report for the finance and trustee meetings throughout the year, in communication with the treasurer, president and other lay leaders. 
  • Produce analysis for the annual external audit and work closely with the auditors.
  • Lead and manage Finance Department through informal and formal professional development. 
  • Oversee the Human Resource function including benefits, payroll administration and monitoring, personnel practices, accounts receivables, accounts payables and collections.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business management. CPA designation preferred. 
  • Five to seven years of experience in a senior financial management role with supervisory responsibilities and demonstrated leadership experience. 
  • Experience as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization, including familiarity with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations. 
  • Excellent people, analytical, organizational and written skills. 
  • Ability to meet multiple simultaneous deadlines and work well under pressure.

Job Title: Development Associate

For 90 years, Yeshivah of Flatbush (YOF) has stood at the forefront of American Jewish education and has set the standard of excellence emulated by other academic institutions. Yeshivah of Flatbush educates over 2,100 children from about 1,200 families, and its students and teachers come from many backgrounds. YOF boasts over 12,000 alumni, many of whom are engaged in leadership roles in supporting the academic, extracurricular, operational, capital and tuition assistance needs of the school, and are determined to help YOF continue its legacy for future generations. Yeshivah of Flatbush seeks a proven planner and doer with demonstrated success in relationship-building skills to become its Development Associate. The successful candidate must have passion for the mission of YOF and be a highly articulate communicator, skilled at making a compelling case for school support. S/he will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing all alumni activity, concentrating on events and engagement. 
Major Responsibilities/Activities 
  • Produce an alumni newsletter, maintain alumni website and social media pages.
  • Plan and execute a robust alumni program that includes high-end events and special programs. 
  • Organize 10-year, 25-year and 50-year reunions annually, leading and collaborating with each class’ reunion committee on all aspects of the event.
  • Craft concepts and language for mailings and different campaigns in collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications team.
  • Communicate with vendors to produce, print, and mail all materials.
  • Track and analyze appeals (progress/results), provide the Development team with updates and recommendations.
Donor Engagement 
  • Identify potential donors through research and donor cultivation.
  • Build relationships with new, prospective, and current donors.
  • Plan and execute engagement and cultivation efforts each year.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of stewardship and cultivation events. 
  • Arrange for invitations, food, event space, and other logistics of the event. 
  • Disseminate and analyze post event surveys
  • Engage in superior customer service to current and potential donors, supporters and members. 
  • Log donor communications and interactions in database 
  • Maintain integrity of information in database and ensure data is entered consistently and accurately. 
  • Run reports in order to pull lists for targeted mail, invitations, or other initiatives as requested. 
Other tasks in support of the Director of Development may be assigned, including but not limited to grant writing and development’s marketing projects. 
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding excellent planning, fundraising and communication skills. S/he will have experience in a collaborative work environment, and must be comfortable working across a large, fast paced, complex organization, with a strong ability to multitask. S/he will be a planner with a demonstrated ability to set priorities and to develop and implement thoughtful, clear, action-oriented growth strategies for YOF. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of 3 years of alumni or fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build comprehensive, effective and creative programs.
  • Strong event planning abilities with strong attention to details.
  • Outstanding relationship-building skills. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with donor databases. 
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work under pressure while remaining outgoing and positive.
  • Prior non-profit experience highly desirable
  • High level of computer proficiency with advanced skills in Word, Outlook, Excel
